Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does a birth doula do?
A: A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support during labor and birth. This can include helping you manage contractions, offering comfort techniques, suggesting position changes, and supporting your birth plan. Doulas work alongside your partner and medical team to ensure you feel empowered, supported, and informed.
Q: Will a doula replace my partner in the delivery room?
A: Not at all. A doula supports both you and your partner. We help your partner feel more confident in their role by offering guidance, reassurance, and taking care of the little things so you both can focus on the birth experience.
Q: Do doulas only attend unmedicated or home births?
A: Doulas support all types of births — medicated, unmedicated, inductions, C-sections, hospital, home, or birth center births. I personally support ONLY hospital and birth center births.
Q: When should I hire a birth doula?
A: Many families hire a doula in the second trimester, but it’s never too late, or early, to reach out. The sooner we connect, the more time we have to build a relationship and prepare for your ideal birth experience.
Q: What’s included in your birth doula package?
A: Packages include prenatal meetings, on-call availability around your due date, continuous support during labor and birth, and a postpartum follow-up visit.
Q: What does a postpartum doula do?
A: A postpartum doula supports you after birth with newborn care, emotional recovery, breastfeeding or bottle feeding, light household tasks, and helping you rest and adjust to life with a new baby. We’re here to help you feel confident and cared for.
Q: How long do families usually hire a postpartum doula for?
A: Every family is different. Some hire a doula for a few weeks, others for several months. We can tailor a schedule based on your needs—whether it’s occasional check-ins or consistent support several times a week.
